Behind the Code: Weekly Elastos Technical Update

August 19, 2025

Welcome to this week’s Behind the Code, your clear window into the code powering the Elastos ecosystem. From stablecoin security fixes to fully programmable digital rights, our teams continued turning complex architecture into simple, trusted tools. Whether you’re here for Bitcoin-backed assets, media monetization, or Web3 infra, here’s what shipped.

This Week’s Major Developments

The BeL2-NBW team finalized deployment of BTCD’s production environment on ECO chain, rolled out the Arbitrator whitelist mechanism for community onboarding, and fixed several key security vulnerabilities following a formal audit. On the UX side, they polished the frontend experience and deepened ecosystem integrations with a dual gas fee solution for ERC-4337.

Meanwhile, Elacity Labs is finalizing its Lit Protocol backend refactoring for its dDRM system—bringing decentralized decryption into full alignment with the smart contract stack. The CEK pipeline is live in testnet and extensible, while major UI upgrades for mobile, earnings, channels, and content creation are nearly production-ready.

BeL2-NBW Team

BTCD ECO Chain Launch Finalization

  • Mainnet Deployment Plan: In preparation for launch all BTCD contracts, ZK services, frontend apps, backend services, and subgraphs deployed on ECO chain.
  • ZK Proof Fixes: Fixed no-data issues and redeployed all proof submission modules with Shanghai team support.
  • Landing Page Live: ECO-specific BTCD landing page now live and receiving traffic.

Community Arbitrator Whitelist

  • Whitelist Contract Deployed: Built and deployed whitelist contracts based on DPoS node historical records.
  • Excess Staking Bug Fixed: Patched a critical issue allowing over-commitment by community arbiters.
  • Registration UI Updated: Quota management, status checks, and order handling optimized for both EF and community arbiters.

Contract Security Audit Remediation

  • Audit Response Complete: Resolved all critical issues from Beijing Institute of Technology report, including lender-designation race condition.
  • BTC Script Improvements: Designed security fallback mechanisms and response plans for BTC lock/unlock edge cases.
  • Business-Level Audit: Verified loss-mitigation strategies across inter-contract flows and arbitration logic.

Frontend & Wallet Enhancements

  • ECO UI Config Migration: All BTCD and arbiter portal config moved to .env files for cleaner deployment.
  • Improved Order Handling: Expired order logic, arbitration displays, and token claim deadlines now fully handled.
  • EE Wallet Support: Enhanced multi-chain handling, fixed Android SDK bugs, and deployed special builds for BPoS syncing.

Ecosystem Expansion

  • ERC-4337 Dual Gas Support: Finalized multi-token gas fee bundler design with Pangu team — supporting PGA, FIST, or ELA as gas with settlement in ELA.
  • Pangu Coordination: Timelines aligned for integration and onboarding. Prepared BTCD protocol for wider community scaling.

Puter OS Extensions Refactor Nearing Completion

The long-awaited refactor for Puter OS extensions is now scheduled to complete next week. While complexity delayed the timeline, the update is expected to significantly improve extensibility and simplify integration of Elastos tools, plugins, and decentralized workflows into the OS. This new architecture will:

  • Streamline extension development and installation for third-party devs
  • Enable future integration of AI agents, protocol tools, and composable UI components
  • Serve as the foundational piece for developer customization across the Elastos World Computer stack

Upcoming Strategic Alignment. Next week, Sasha and Rong will meet with a DePin infrastructure team in China to align on World Computer edge computing strategy. The goal: leverage Puter extensions to support embedded decentralised DePin networking and WASM utility across edge devices in ElastOS with Elacity dDRM NFT system to power dApp monetisation and validation for frontier markets.  This opens the door to:

  • Running personal nodes and connecting to peers with privacy-preserving protocols
  • Local execution of AI agents using smart account credentials
  • A global and decentralized world computer marketplace for all markets
  • A decentralized cloud computer layer, with ELA powering access and compute pricing

Elastos DAO Conversations: Upgrading the Infrastructure Stack
In parallel, discussions within the Elastos DAO have focused on addressing the current limitations of the Elastos Smart Chain (ESC) for WCI,  particularly around finality speeds and the lack of responsive third-party partners to support needs otherwise widely available across other networks. Council members have suggested:

  • Upgrading ESC to be more performant with developer-friendly environments and chain abstraction for universal access.
  • Hosting ElastOS infrastructure and dApps on Sonic (with sub-second finality and 90% gas rebates used to buy back ELA)
  • Implementing institutional-grade ELA bridging solutions to increase network liquidity, support buybacks, and facilitate cross-network arbitrage opportunities, looping back through mainchain and sidechain rails, improving user experience, token utility, and economic activity across the entire Elastos ecosystem.

Conversations are ongoing on this topic with different levels of budgets required to be considered.

Decentralized Licensing: Lit-Powered CEK Retrieval Progresses in Elacity dDRM

  • Backend Refactoring Complete: Supports both legacy and new Lit-based CEK retrieval paths.
  • PSSH Bindings Arrayified: Allows multi-key licensing logic tied to dynamic content systemIds.
  • Player Integration Finalized: Playback now supports SIWE-authenticated session signatures for CEK access.
  • CI/CD Rollout Underway: Production-grade keystore deployment infrastructure being finalized.

Elacity dDRM UI/UX and Dashboard Upgrades

  • Core Pages Refactored:
    • Home Explorer
    • Channels & Cinema
    • Earnings/Sales Tabs
    • Subscriptions
    • Market Activity
  • Media & Channel Forms Polished: Content creation and onboarding flows received final QA.
  • Notification System Rebuilt: Unified design for on-chain, network, and app-based alerts.

Intelligent Agents & Dev Docs

  • AI Agent Guideline Drafted: Developer documentation prepared for agent-based interactions with the MCP server for Elacity dDRM.
  • Branch Cleanup & Git Flow: Git structure reorganized for clean release pipelines tied to mobile UI.

Elastos Engineering Challenges

Challenge Resolution
ZK Integration Fragility Fixed proof-submission service gaps with Cairo venv sourcing
Audit-Driven Architecture Fixes Deployed contract-side logic patches, added fallback mechanisms
