[Historical] Behind the Code: Weekly Elastos Technical Update (NBW Foundation–era, Jul 29, 2025)

Editor’s Note — added 20 May 2026

This page is retained as a historical record. The work described here was carried out by the NBW Foundation (formerly the Elastos Foundation) — not by Elastos DAO. Elastos DAO did not issue, fund, operate, guarantee, or approve BTCD or any of the activity reported on this page. For the current position of Elastos DAO and Elacity Labs, please read: Elastos, Where We Stand Today.

About this specific update:

This Behind the Code weekly covered Foundation-era development across the Elastos ecosystem, including BeL2, BTCD, arbitrator, and stablecoin work. All such work was carried out by the NBW Foundation. Elastos DAO did not commission, fund, or supervise any of it.

July 29, 2025

This week marks a major milestone in the march toward a fully decentralized, user-sovereign financial and compute stack. The BeL2-NBW Team have launched the PGP testnet, implemented the Gold-Silver Bimetallic (GSM) staking model for BTCD, and fixed a critical mainchain BPoS security bug. Meanwhile, Elacity Labs prepares the final stretch of its Puter extension system, turning ElastOS into a fully extensible, decentralized operating environment—with native IPFS and node orchestration nearing ready to go.

BeL2-NBW Team

PGP Testnet: Live and Fully Functional

  • Deployed full infrastructure: block explorer, APIs, and core contracts (zk_service, signature_validation, btc_header_data)

  • Verified deposit flow, dynamic block production, and cross-chain stability

  • Adjusted dynamic consensus to 2/3 node rule to prevent double-signing issues

  • Resolved intermittent block stoppage issues in the PGP environment

BTCD Protocol: GSM Collateral Model Implemented

  • Deployed ELA and FIST contracts and enabled multi-token staking

  • Adjusted minting logic to allow flexible collateralization ratios using ELA or FIST

  • Tested 30% interest-collection mechanics on repay

  • Finalized fee distribution logic and verified revenue routing across all participants

Mainchain Fixes: BPoS Proposal Bug Resolved

  • Investigated and fixed illegal proposal issue in mainnet BPoS nodes

  • Prepared and tested release-ready code for deployment (requires node upgrade)

  • Improved DPoS/BPoS proposal validation to harden network security

BTCD protocol frontend UX: Major Experience Improvements

  • Removed incompatible wallets (e.g. OKX) from BTC flow

  • Optimized arbiter selection UI, staking displays, and conditional logic for 65% collateral mode

  • Added required BTC display on minting page

  • Recorded complete demo videos for:

    • Web BTCD flow

    • Essential wallet lending journey

    • Frontend integration walkthroughs

EE Wallet: Full PGP Chain Support Added

  • Enabled display, transfers, and full wallet functionality on PGP testnet

  • Tested multi-chain consistency and edge cases

  • Verified flow via Essential’s built-in browser and recorded tutorial footage

Infra & DevOps

  • Migrated download services from AWS to Vultr, reducing traffic costs

  • Cleaned up unused AWS instances

  • Updated arbitrator staging + production webapps

  • Finalized automation scripts for PGP and Oracle nodes (init, start, stop, update, query)

Elacity Labs & WCI

Puter Extension Framework: Nearing Completion

  • Final-stage testing for extensions enabling:

    • IPFS-native file storage

    • Node orchestration inside ElastOS

    • Web2-to-Web3 bridging via identity/session abstraction

  • Prepping native IPFS install + dynamic service provisioning inside elastos.pc2.net

Impact: ElastOS becomes an extensible digital OS where identity, compute, and storage converge—sovereign by design.

ERC-4337 Smart Account Minting: Fully Supported

  • Contracts upgraded with smart _msgSender  support

  • allowTransferof behavior patched to preserve context

  • License request logic updated for signature-based flows

  • Media player and frontend adapted to recognize smart accounts

Result: Minting, licensing, and playback now work end-to-end for abstracted accounts—no wallet awareness needed.

Bundled Transaction Execution: Stability in Progress

  • Isolated key failure points in approve + mint bundling

  • Implemented unit tests and real-world simulations

  • Logs sent to Particle team for resolution

  • Integration testing continues for Useroperation edge cases

Frontend & UX

  • Updated player logic to resolve ownership via smart accounts

  • Reviewed Web2 login abstraction and session signature flow

  • Synced frontend updates to match abstracted transaction architecture

What’s Next

BeL2-NBW

  • Deploy mainchain fix for illegal BPoS proposals

  • Finalize Issuer auto-signing service for BTC seizure after repayment failure

  • Deep-dive GSM testing on PGP

  • Optimize block production and alerting systems

EE Wallet

  • Push PGP support to production

  • Streamline multi-chain UX across lending and minting

  • Expand wallet testing and instructional support

Elacity Labs

  • Develop Puter IPFS/node extensions inside ElastOS

  • Complete WASM decryption flow for Lit-powered Elacity dDRM licensing

  • Finalize bundling fix and ERC-4337 implementation

Why It Matters

This week’s updates unlock major capabilities for Elastos:

  • A multi-token collateral model for BTCD increases ELA and FIST utility

  • A PGP chain testnet with dynamic consensus and full integration

  • An OS-level decentralized extension system via Puter

  • Smart account minting and licensing now working end-to-end

From identity to compute to finance—Elastos continues to prove what a true SmartWeb looks like.
